With great sadness, I have to share that Grace Schwartz, mother of BK member Cathlin Grupper, passed away on July 10, 2016, at the age of 95.

Born in the Bronx in 1921, Grace Shaw married Bernard Schwartz, the love of her life, in 1944. The marriage, which ended in 1977 with his untimely death, was a model of mutual love and respect. The couple was devoted to the value of education and books, and was instrumental in helping to found the public library in Tinton Falls, NJ, where they had moved in 1957. Grace completed her interrupted college education later in adulthood and went on to earn a Master’s in Library Science and teaching. For many years she was a beloved elementary school librarian, recognized for her support of teachers and students with her contagious love of books.  Her family and friends always admired her tact, thoughtfulness and graciousness.

Besides being remembered by Cathlin, Jonathan, Jesse, and Madeline, Grace was the mother of Matthew (deceased in 1956) and survived by daughters Margret Magid and Nora Aion, sons-in-law Steven Magid and Stuart Aion, and grandchildren Barbara, Lisa, Casey and Travis.
