As part of Rabbi Elliott's Spring series, The Challenge of Prayer, a number of services will be dedicated to exploring alternative modes of prayer. All of our explorations will be related to the course readings and are intended to help bring some the theory down-to-earth. Hopefully they will be opportunities for us to explore different modes of prayer, some new and some very old, that will deepen our communities spiritual practice.

Mirembe Kawomera CoffeeA delegation of four Ugandan coffee farmers representing the interfaith Peace Kawomera Cooperative will share their story of building peace through fair trade. Joab ("JJ") Keki visited BK last year, leading us in Abayudayan (Ugandan Jewish) melodies of the tehilim that brought the room to a standstill. We are honored to have him join us again, this time with his fellow co-op members and partners from Thanksgiving Coffee. BK has been brewing Mirembe Kawomera Delicious Peace Kosher Fair Trade Certified Coffee for over a year. In stock and always fresh. Available through the BK office or contact Lori Ziliotto.

At Union Baptist Church, 12 Midland Avenue (near Portland Place) in Montclair. If you loved the singing at the Martin Luther King Day service in January, you won't want to miss this opportunity. It was Union Baptist's choir director that led the choir in January, and the singing on March 30 is sure to be as stirring and energizing. So that we can let Reverend Parrish know how many people to expect, please RSVP to the BK office. On Saturday 4/26 Reverend Parrish will lead the dvar Torah at Bnai Keshet.

Lior Liebling and Rabbi Shawn ZevitBK is a community sponsor of this film, and Lior has a very special BK connection. His father, Rabbi Mordechai Liebling, was our Religious School principal many years ago, and later served for 14 years as Executive Director of the JRF. "Winner of Audience Awards for Best Documentary, Praying with Lior asks whether someone with Down syndrome can be a 'spiritual genius.' Many consider Lior close to God–though he’s also a burden, a best friend, an inspiration and an embarrassment, depending on who is asked and when. As this moving and entertaining documentary moves to its climax, Lior must pass through the gateway to manhood--his Bar Mitzvah." Watch the trailer at http://www.jrf.org/praying-with-lior-philly.
