Our guest this month will be Fran Rod, the NJ Outreach Coordinator for DOROT (English translation GENERATIONS), planning and promoting two of DOROT'S programs that are available to older adults and family caregivers, University Without Walls and Caregivers' Connections. DOROT is a not-for-profit social service agency based in Manhattan, providing innovative programs and services to seniors since 1976. UWW and CC are teleconferenced-based programs that bring professionally facilitated classes and support groups to people at home using a regular telephone. Jane is a long-time member of BK, and was president of the JRF for four years. She has served on the board of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, and continues to serve on the JRF board. A group of poets, Israeli, Palestinian, and Americans with strong ties to the Middle East, read their work and discuss the personal and political perspective from which they write. The poets share a deep passion for peace, an intricate historical perspective, and a love of the written word. The premise of the evening is that only when we understand the pain and longing of the "other," can we ever find peace. A discussion, with questions from the audience, will follow, moderated by Bnai Keshet member Martin Golan, a journalist and writer. Among those reading are: | ||

March with the Torch Walk, drawing attention to the Olympics host China's participation in supporting Sudan as the genocide in Darfur continues. Through text study, discussion, and song we will unpack some of the layers imbedded in these tefillot as well as learn new ways to possibly connect to them. No Hebrew skills are required.
