8:00 PM - 9:30 PMI invite you to join me in a close reading of the introduction of this classic text of Jewish ethical practice. My hope is that we won’t even get to the first chapter. Mussar is about remembering what we already know but fail to do, in such a way that we over time slowly change our behavior. Study is itself a key practice in this glacial process of redirecting our actions, one degree at a time, toward the good. So come to sit with me, study and get almost nowhere at all.
Texts will be available but participants are encouraged to bring their own copy of this book. I recommend the translation done by Mordecai M. Kaplan which was recently published with commentary by Rabbi Ira F. Stone, through JPS.
