Our Hearts are with Israel

October 7, 2023 - from Maya & Brian, Co-Presidents of BK

We are shocked, saddened and angry about the news from Israel today. We condemn the terrorist attacks and stand with our friends and relatives, including Bnai Keshet members, who are barricading in their homes. We particularly hold in our hearts those in our community with friends and family in Israel who may be in harm's way. We pray that everything that can be done, will be done to keep our friends, families and community in Israel safe. Please know that the synagogue leadership and rabbis are especially present for you at this moment. Terrorism is never justified.

We know that the fate of the Jewish people, the fate of Israelis and the fate of all those who inhabit the land are inextricably tied to one another.  We pray for a fast cessation of violence, the safe return of all those who are being held and safety for all.

Tonight we will gather in prayer to acknowledge our sadness and observe Simchat Torah with our fellow synagogue members and friends from Shomrei Emunah, Temple Sholom and Temple Ner Tamid  as planned to celebrate Simchat Torah and take comfort from continuing to build a strong Jewish community together. Given the weather, we will be gathering indoors at Shomrei Emunah, 67 Park St. The program will include young children’s activities 6-6:45pm and continue at 6:45 pm with programming for adults and families. The rabbis and cantors of our community will work together to acknowledge the parallel tracks of our broken heartedness and the celebration of Torah as a source of joy at the heart of Judaism.
