Bnai Keshet Pre-High Holy Days Mikvah 2014

Sunday, September 21, 2014 26 Elul 5774

1:30 PM - 4:30 PM6 Chilton Drive, Little Falls, NJ

For some Jews, spiritual preparation for the High Holidays includes a visit to the mikvah – a symbolic washing away of what we’d like to leave behind from the year past as we prepare for the one upcoming.

This year, we have an opportunity to do this as a community.  Catherine Brown and Larry Kramer have generously offered their home and pool.  Here are the particulars:

Women will gather with Rabbi Ariann at 1:30.

Men will gather with Rabbi Elliott at 3:00.

  • Park in the parking area opposite the driveway’s entrance, or on the edge of the grass just beyond, but please don’t block the road.
  • There is both an indoor changing area and a private outdoor shower.
  • The pool will be heated.  (The halachah is that a mikvah must have a natural water source, so an outdoor pool is kosher.)
  • Following a brief group (gender-specific) time with the rabbi, each person will proceed to the shower and mikvah individually and privately.  The pool is surrounded by high trees and shrubbery.
  • There’s a substantial covered patio that will serve at the waiting area, so unless there’s thunder or lightening the event will proceed rain or shine.

Many thanks to Larry and Catherine for making this possible.  If there’s sufficient interest, perhaps it will evolve into an annual BK tradition.
