Reading the Talmud for Ethics
Keynote Speaker: Rabbi Mira Wasserman, Ph.D.
Mira Wasserman’s work as a rabbi and scholar bridges Talmud study, community building and the pursuit of social justice. Mira served as rabbi of Beth Shalom in Bloomington, Indiana for over a decade and is now Assistant Professor of Rabbinic Literature at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. She attended rabbinical school at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, earned her doctorate at UC Berkeley, and is an alumna of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship.
Her book Jews, Gentiles, and Other Animals is forthcoming from the University of Pennsylvania Press. In her current book project, she argues for drawing on rabbinic literature—and on the Talmud in particular—as a model for contemporary ethical deliberation.
