8:00 PM - 9:30 PMHospice Chaplain to Discuss Spiritual Needs of the Dying
Hospice chaplain and Rabbi Karen Kaplan, author of the new book, "Encountering the Edge: Stories People Told Me Before They Died", will share her experiences tending to the spiritual and human needs of the sick and the dying, on Wednesday May 21, from 8:00-9:30 pm. The session is open to all.
Kaplan, 57, also will discuss her motivations for becoming a hospice chaplan and how it led to a process of self-discovery. She has worked as a hospice chaplain for the last seven years. Kaplan's book describes inner workings of a hospice agency, including experiences on-the-road as well as in an office. Copies of her book will be available at the session.

Her blog, Off-Beat Compassion, talks about her experiences and insights on death, dying, grief and end-of-life issues. Kaplan lives in Kearny with her husband. She was ordained as a Reform Rabbi in 1992.
