Yom Hashoa Remembrance / Name Reading
Sunday, April 27, 2014 • 27 Nisan 5774
8:30 PM - 12:30 AM Next DayBnai KeshetOn Sunday, April 27th, the Montclair Clergy Association will host an interfaith Yom HaShoah observance to remember those who perished during the Holocaust. A service will begin at 7:00pm at St. Luke’s Church located at 73 S. Fullerton Avenue in Montclair. Attendants will be honored to hear Survivor Ed Bindel speak about his experience.
Immediately following the service at 8:30pm, all are invited to walk down the block to Bnai Keshet, 99 S. Fullerton Avenue, where volunteers will read aloud names of victims through the night and into the next day, concluding at 6:30pm Monday evening. (There will be a pause in reading during overnight hours - from 12:30a.m. to 5a.m).
While Jews were persecuted during this time in history, it is important to remember that gays and lesbians, as well as individuals with disabilities, were also targeted. Lists of names representing these groups will also be available for reading aloud.
Any and all are welcome and encouraged to honor the memories of those who suffered. Sign up below or just come to pay respects. You may bring names of family members to read aloud, or share personal artifacts.
