Memorial Notice: Maurice Levy

Maurice Levy, father of BK Member Rich Levy, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016.
Maurice was a Master Mathematics teacher and math department chair at Peabody High School. His interest in music lead him to interview 300 Pittsburgh musicians for The Oral History of Music In Pittsburgh Project.
The Maurice Levy Oral History of Music in Pittsburgh Collection (OHMP) consists of over 300 interviews conducted by Mr. Maurice Levy, unless indicated otherwise. Mr. Levy is a long-time Music Department volunteer and a legendary mathematics teacher (now retired) in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. The interviews include a wide variety of people in Pittsburgh who have
been heavily involved with professional and amateur music, be it in the areas of jazz, classical, popular, or folk and traditional. The project began in 1991 and continues.
Those mourning his loss, besides Richard and Debra, include his beloved wife, Joan (Wolinsky) Levy; daughters Debbie (Mitch) Levy-McKenney of Pittsburgh and Karen Levy Finkel of New York City; grandchildren Molly (Matt Kendrick) McKenney, Ethan (Laura) McKenney, Alice McKenney, Sarah McKenney, Jenna Levy, Maddi Finkel and Lydia Finkel; and great-grandchild Lucas McKenney.
Services were held today in Pittsburgh.
Shiva will be at Richard and Debra's home ( 36 Hillsdale Rd, Cedar Grove) on Tuesday, March 22nd, beginning at 6:30P with a Shiva Minyan at 7:30P.
