Memorial Notice: Harold Schlackman

I sadly have to inform you that Harold Schlackman, stepfather of BK member Janet Berman, passed away on May 25th at the age of 95.
Born in the Bronx, "Hal" was a life-long Yankees fan. He was a devoted father to Stuart (Betty), Scott (Marie-Eve) and Jay. Stepfather to Linda, Glenn and Barry Spitzer and Janet (Alan) Berman. Grandfather to Bryan, Rachel, Gregg, Eddie, Lea, Jacob and Jeyson Schlackman and Arielle and Jared Berman. Hal was an especially devoted husband to Marcella, whom he met and fell in love with soon after losing his first wife. Marcella and Hal were married for 33 years.
Hal was a WWII vet, stationed in the Philippines. He served as CFO of Kay Jewelers, until his retirement in 1991. As a retiree he was able to pursue his many interests and hobbies, including reading, solving The NY Times crossword puzzles, Suduko, playing Bridge and GOLF. At 94 he was still playing golf 3X's a week and Bridge once a week. 
Getting up at 6AM was not a problem, if it was to have an early tee time and meet his golf buddies. We would schedule our flights to Florida to arrive after his golf game.

Hal was the most positive and inspirational person you could meet. While in the hospital he would envision himself back on the the golf course. That was his medicine to get better. During his final days, he was often asked how he felt, his answer was always "I'm fine".
Hal will be missed by his golf and bridge buddies, his children, step-children, grandchildren and most of all, Marcella.
The funeral and shiva took place in Florida.
