Memorial Notice: Abraham "Abe" Peck

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Abraham "Abe" Peck. Abraham "Abe," age 91, of River Vale, formerly of Paterson and also a former long time resident of Fair Lawn, passed away peacefully on Thursday night, August 25, 2016 at his home. Beloved husband of the late Helen Peck, devoted father of Jacob Peck and his wife Susan, of West Caldwell, NJ, cherished grandfather of David Peck and his wife Sarah, Granddaughter Lauren Pricer and Husband Edward, dear great-grandfather of Elise, Timothy and Holly. Abe was born in Szadek, Poland in 1924. Abe's family was very close. Abe's parents, his sister, his aunts, his uncles and many cousins perished in the Holocaust.
Abe met his future wife, the late Helen Peck, a concentration camp survivor in Germany, after being liberated. Helen and Abe were married in 1946; their son Jack was born in 1949 and they immigrated to America at the end of 1949. Once in America, Abe, his wife and their infant son settled in Paterson, NJ with support from the Paterson Jewish Community Council. Abe was active in the community, and believed in educating the young and providing for their care. He became very active with the Independent Lodzer Young Men and became its President for many years. They received many donations and offered charity to schools, nursing homes and hospitals over the years, in addition, Abe became very active with the Fair Lawn Jewish Center in Fair Lawn, NJ.
In 1996, Abe was honored by the Fair Lawn Jewish Center for his many philanthropic contributions as well as his history as a Holocaust Survivor. Abe wrote a book, Abe Versus Adolf, recounting his experiences during the Holocaust and lessons for the younger generation. He has been a guest speaker at many colleges and universities in the United States and in Europe. Abe has spoken with children in grammar schools and high schools, as he believes in educating the young, "Young people should go as far as they can to get an education". Don't build things to kill people. "Go into careers to cure sickness and to help people to live better lives." Abe reflects happily upon his life, and he states that he has no regrets. "I made many good friends and they tell me that I am a nice guy!"- Abe bought a company called the Hampton Shops, an upholstery business and changed the name of the company to Jalen, after his son and wife and operated a successful business for 25 years before his retirement. Services will be 12 noon Monday, August 29, 2016 at Louis Suburban Chapel 13-01 Broadway (Route 4 West), Fair Lawn, NJ, burial will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ.

Tuesday the 30th and Wednesday the 31st, from 6:30 to 9:00pm, Prayers at 7:30pm. Thursday afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00pm.
