Special message from Martin & Marian Golan:

Having been members of Bnai Keshet since 1987, we are excited to announce that our last day as members will be Saturday, January 28th. Please join us as we bid farewell to BK.

Lunch & Learn is back next week 1/18

We will look together at women who have challenged traditional ideas about God and Jewish community as well as challenging the structures of authority and the transmission of Jewish knowledge in the modern Jewish world.

We'll be starting with a discussion of Rachel Adler, the author of Engendering Judaism, a critique and expansion of halakhah (Jewish law) on feminist terms. Rabbi Ariann will be talking deeply about Adler's later work, but you might be interested in re-reading one of her earlier essays, “The Jew Who Wasn't There,”  Or you could watch this great (short) video of her.

Congregational Dinners 3/4 - Hosts Needed

The Dinner Committee is looking for hosts for this year's congregational dinners which will take place on Saturday March 4 at 7 pm.   These dinners are one of the most popular BK events.  It's a delightful night out and a fantastic opportunity to get to know others in our BK community while engaging in adult conversation (this is an adult-only, BK member only event).

If you are able to host 6-8 BK members in addition to yourselves, please let us know immediately. You may opt for fewer guests or ask for contributions to the meal. Having guests provide desserts would be a simple division of labor and deliciousness.  You can also opt to co-host with someone as well.

You must let us know you are IN no later than JANUARY 23rd so we can get on with the other planning. If you have questions about taking on this Host role, please call and talk to us.

And for those of you who want to participate as a guest, you can sign up to do that. Please email or call Jennifer Atkins(917) 653-8987) with any questions.

LatkePalooza Wrap-up

LatkePalooza was again a giant success, offering two seatings of fresh-made tasty latkes, two kinds of kugel, and for adults the traditional Vodka Tasting. Thanks go to Kitchen Irregulars: Jared Berman, Alan Berman, Marty Infeld, Sam Sheps, Zach Lipner, Denis Orloff, Eric Schwimmer, Ira Karasick, Ed Davis, and Marty Fellner who sliced, diced, grated, and fried. Amos Kamil lended moral support, Denis Orloff and Paul Shatz went with Dan Epstein to do the shopping and heavy lifting. Liz Lipner was again the doyenne and producer/hostess of the Vodka Tasting.  Special thanks are given to Steve and Jeffrey Sanders who did a yeoman’s task cleaning up the kitchen mess. Likewise Stuart Brown as always proved invaluable offering support throughout the project.  And finally, as always, Dan Epstein shepherded the whole thing while managing not to actually get his hands dirty.

BK member Nancy Star's New Novel launches at Watchung Booksellers

Sisters  One, Two, Three

Saturday, January 14, 5-6pm

Join us for the Book Launch Celebration for our very own Nancy Star's new novel,
Sisters One, Two, Three. As Christina Baker Kline noted  "An extraordinarily moving, beautifully written novel, Sisters One, Two, Three is a searing portrait of a family haunted by tragedy and fractured by the toxic power of secrets. As the story progresses, we grow to know and love the fierce and eccentric Tangles, a family at once familiar and like no other.
