The Jewish Call to Social Justice: Interfaith Community Organizing in Ferguson, MO - Sunday, February 26th at 11am.
Sarah Barasch-Hagans, rabbinic intern, calls us to use our voices to be part of positive social change.
Sarah is a 4th year student at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia and comes from St. Louis, MO. She is the Founder of the Fargesn Media Project, a documentary examining the intersections of Blackness and Judaism in the Ferguson Movement.
Protest, Power, and We the People Wednesday, February 22nd, 7:30 pm
Today’s challenges are echoed in the Purim and Passover stories. Each of those narratives highlights the resistance to injustice, but in different ways. Both focus on the use of power to remedy an oppressive system.
Rabbi Ariann will lead us in a discussion with biblical text as a jumping-off point to today’s issues. What is the power of our citizenry today? What is effective resistance? How much power do everyday people have? Do religious groups have an advantage in their voices being heard? Bring your ideas, optimism, skepticism, and information you have of already well-organized local and national efforts. All are welcome.
First time ever in the U.S. Playing in major cities .... and here at Bnai Keshet.
March 1st at 7PM
Join us on March 1st at 7PM for an evening of magical live radio in a first-ever collaboration between NIF and Israel Story, the award winning radio show and podcast that public radio icon Ira Glass calls "the Israeli This American Life".
In a combination of radio-style storytelling, live collage animation, music, singing, video, and other multimedia magic, Israel Story LIVE tells the stories of Israelis from all over the country. This show will include a combination of previously-performed and never-before-seen stories!
Join us for a crash course on Reconstructionism - perfect for the beginner, the founding member, and everyone in between. What does it mean that Judaism is "of" the Jewish people? How is Reconstructionist thought continuous with or a break from Jewish tradition? What does it mean to pray as a Reconstructionist? How do Reconstructionists understand Torah?
