Bnai Keshet Chevra Kadisha Adult Bet Midrash: Creating and Sustaining a Caring Community: A chevra kadisha (Hevra kadishah) (חברא קדישא, Ḥebh'ra Qaddisha "holy society") is an organization of Jewish men and women who see to it that the bodies of Jews are prepared for burial according to Jewish tradition and are protected from desecration, willful or not, until burial. Two of the main requirements are the showing of proper respect for a corpse, and the ritual cleansing of the body and subsequent dressing for burial. It is usually referred to as a burial society in English. You can watch this video of a tahara demonstration that Lisa Brennan recorded at the June 2013 Kavod v'Nichum conference, to prepare for the class.

Dualism in Prayer - We know all about the relational dichotomies of the Torah at this time of year: Isaac and Ishmael, Jacob and Esau, Rebecca and Leah but how do we understand the dichotomies of the spirit? What are our issues of spiritual separation - mechitzah if you will?
This service will play with dualities in prayer - Good and Evil, Body and Soul, Eminent and Transcendent, Faith and Skepticism, I and Thou and more.

Friday Night Chavurah “Unchained at Last”: “Unchained at Last,” featuring Fraidy Reiss. It may come as a surprise to many that arranged/forced marriages exist in the United States, affecting tens of thousands of women across different faith and ethnic communities. More than a year ago, Fraidy Reiss, herself once trapped in an arranged marriage, founded Unchained at Last, the only nonprofit in the U.S. dedicated to helping women leave such marriages. Today, more than 70 percent of those served by her organization come from the Orthodox Jewish community. Once trapped in her own abusive, arranged marriage, Fraidy will use her experiences to illustrate the challenges facing other women in ending such marriages. She will brief us on legislative and other avenues to help such women. This provocative and unusual program is one that you won’t want to miss. All are welcome! - Friday, November 15 8:00pm-9:30pm
