I'm sad to announce that Harry Jagoda, father of BK Member and Past-President Betty Jagoda Murphy, passed away, peacefully in his sleep, yesterday morning at the age of 100.

Harry Jagoda, a remarkable man, was born in Lomza, Poland, December 25, 1913 and grew up in Youngstown, Ohio.  An enthusiastic entrepreneur his entire life, Harry liked nothing better than seizing an opportunity, working out a deal, building a relationship, doing a favor and enjoying his family.  Harry served in the Army during WWII in Africa, and as a Master Sergeant in charge of Salvage in Bari, Italy where he met and married Flory Kabilio, his beloved wife of 69 years.

Harry served as a Director for several banks including Guaranty Bank & Trust, Riggs Bank of VA and Horizon Bank of VA.  Among many other board positions, he was a founding member of Westwood Country Club, a member of the Fairfax County Equalization Board, a director of the Fairfax Symphony, and a member of the Independent Fee Appraisers Association of Greater Washington.

Harry and Flory lived in Northern Virginia for 65 years where they raised 4 children; Betty Jagoda Murphy of Montclair, NJ; Elliot Jagoda of DelRay Beach, FLA, Andy Jagoda of NYC, NY and Lori Jagoda Lowell of Aspen, CO.  He is survived by his wife and children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services to celebrate a life fully lived will be held at Etz Hayim Congregation, Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 28, 2014, followed by internment at King David Cemetery in Falls Church, VA.

We will announce a local opportunity to remember and honor Harry in the coming weeks.

Donations in Harry's honor may be made to JEMGLO,  an award-winning documentary film organization focused on subjects broadly related to global Jewish culture or associated with environmental topics.
