Anavah | Humility
“No more than my space, no more than my place.” –Dr. Alan Morinis
In Jewish Tradition humility is not about diminishing one’s self. It is becoming present, aware, and comfortable with one’s place. When we understand our place, we give others their space too. It is when we take up so much space that we squeeze others out, or take up so little space that the responsibility falls onto other’s shoulders that we are not showing anavah. Humility is a journey of right sizing in our life, which at some times will be about expansiveness, and at other times will be about contraction. Click for more and readings .....

A continuation of the Oct, 25 session, and will be shaped by the interests of those at the first session. It will probably include looking at the work of former New Jersey Poet Laureate Amiri Baraka, who is lauded by many despite writing a poem, which he stood by, that said Jews and Israel were responsible for 9/11. We may also detour into fiction, to read and discuss excerpts from major 20th century novels (Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” and Hemingway’s “The Sun Also Rises”) which feature undeniably anti-Semitic characters.
