Fast of the Firstborn
Taanit Bechorim: is a fast day which falls on the day before Passover and commemorates the salvation of the Israelite firstborns during the Plague of the Firstborn. The fast is traditionally avoided by participating in a siyyum celebration at the conclusion of the morning services. We will celebrate the conclusion of a block of Jewish text study. This creates an atmosphere of rejoicing that overrides the requirement to continue the fast.
