Israeli Kabbalat Shabbat In the style of the Rosh Pina
Join Rabbi Golan Ben-Chorin on Friday, August 14th at 6:00P when he will be leading a music-filled Kabbalat Shabbat featuring many of the melodies and traditions from his congregation in Rosh Pina.
Rosh Pina, located just outside of the mystical city of Tsfat, is one of Israel’s oldest communities, and also home to a new, pluralistic congregation founded by Rabbi Golan and an energetic team of grassroots organizers. Rabbi Golan will be sharing a bit about what the group is creating, including “The Retreat of Soul and Soil”, a community garden to serve as the congregation’s bet midrash (house of study). The service will be led in part by Rabbi Golan’s son, Ely, who is celebrating his becoming a bar mitzvah, and led the same service in Rosh Pina in May.
A home-cooked Israeli dinner in the style of New Jersey will be provided by the Polaners in honor of Ely becoming a bar mitzvah.
