Big Happenings at Bnai Keshet

About the "Roabst"

Every year Bnai Keshet selects an outstanding member of our congregation and proceeds to “Roast” that person in an evening of fun, comedy, songs and tribute. (Except that we call it a “Roabst,” after Peter Herbst, our first honoree.)

This year we are “honoring” Craig Levine, Bnai Keshet leader, public interest lawyer and drummer extraordinaire. Craig served as co-president of Bnai Keshet, co-chair of the search committee that recommended Rabbi Ariann, co-chair of Leadership Development and instigator of such wild-eyed projects as the gaga pit and super-sized sukkah. In other words, a thoughtful, engaged volunteer for just about all things BK.

We invite you to join Craig’s family, Phoebe Farber, Izzy and Cal, who will line up at the mic to help skewer him (lovingly), together with congregants and friends on Saturday, November 21, 7 to 10 p.m., at Bnai Keshet, 99 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair. Your presence will truly honor him, and we will all have some good laughs.  And, of course, great Jewish deli, live music and fun.

RSVP by sending a donation of $90 per person to Bnai Keshet or reserving and donating at www.bnaikeshet.org/Craig by November 9th. If you can’t make it but would like to support the event, the web site includes such options.

You also have an opportunity to tell Craig how much you admire and appreciate him (or to poke more fun at him) by taking space in the tribute journal we are creating in his honor. Tell us what you want to say or send your own design. Just go to www.bnaikeshet.org/Craig. You will be able to submit your message and pay online. The tribute journal deadline is November 9th.

About Beit Tefilah Yisraeli

Click to listen to Ki Beiti Beit Tfila - כי ביתי

BTI is a multi-generational and inclusive community of committed and passionate Israelis. They have created a model for a new kind of experimental and creative Jewish-Israeli congregation, unaffiliated with any movement.

In the summer months, Beit Tefilah Israeli conducts open Kabbalot Shabbat Services at the Tel Aviv Port Promenade, in front of the Mediterranean Sea at sunset, combining prayer, music, meditation, poetry, singing and dancing. For the months of July and August, they enter the public sphere where they are joined by 700-800 Israelis who gather weekly for this unique spiritual and cultural Shabbat experience in Tel Aviv.

What makes them unique is their blend of tradition and modernity.  Many of the traditional prayers are set to new music composed by an Israeli rock star but you may also hear songs like "It's a Beautiful World" and "Let it Be" sung in Hebrew.

Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door

Early bird price of $15 until November 6
