Sacred Chanting - Shabbat 9AM

Why Chant? This Shabbat marks the first gathering of our Bnai Keshet Sacred Chant Group in 5776. BKers will join to chant melodic, rhythmic repetitions of a sacred phrase derived from liturgy and Torah. That might sound complicated but it’s not: anyone can do it. All you need to bring with you is your heart, spirit and voice. Chanting is prayerful and meditative, it’s not singing. You are invited to “come as you are”, no matter how you are feeling. When we come together as a community to support each other in our own unique experiences we always leave feeling more connected to each other, ourselves, our world. Chant is an ancient practice that connects us to Judaism, God and Torah in a personal way. It has the ability to engage and quiet our minds and bodies and open doorways to expanded states of awareness, love and truth. Why Chant? Why not? We welcome you.

Melissa Schaffer has led Sacred Hebrew Chant in Montclair at Bnai Keshet Synagogue, in the metropolitan area, and privately for 7 years. She is a graduate of Rabbi Shefa Gold’s intensive 2 year Spiritual Chant Leader training .
