Warm Up Your Soul at BK

This Weekend

Friday evening - Kabbalat Shabbat with Nefesh Mountain 7:30PM

Join us on January 8th at 7:30PM when Doni Zasloff and Eric Lindberg, as the duo Nefesh Mountain, share their Bluegrass Shabbat Service that includes songs and prayers that draw from Bluegrass, Old Time, and Celtic influences. Click for more info.

Shabbat Morning 1/9

Join Jessica Siegel at 9am to study from the Book of Judges.

Join Melissa Schaffer with the BK Sacred Chant Group at 9am -- no experience is necessary! Chanting is the melodic, rhythmic repetition of a sacred phrase often derived from Jewish liturgy connecting us to ourselves, our community, and Torah personally. Join us as we begin 2016 with fresh commitment and devotion.

Torah Aliyah: Meaning, History and Variations

This Shabbat during the devar Torah Rabbi Elliott will be teaching about the origins and meaning of the blessings said before and after Torah reading, commonly called an Aliyah. There is currently a task force in the process of reviewing our practices related to Torah Aliyot. This is one of several study sessions and discussions planned to bring the congregation into this conversation.

The BK Ball Needs YOU!

Aviva here. I’m putting together a dynamic, fun team to plan the next B’nai Keshet gala, happening in early March (yowza—that’s soon!). If you are an IDEA person, an ARTS person, a NUMBERS person—or just have a lot of energy or enthusiasm, I need you!

Some cool facts about the event:
·      The theme is CUBAN JEWRY, or just Cuba, or just HAVA-NA Good Time
·      Maybe, your ticket to the event enters you into a raffle to win a cool vacation(yasss!)
·      We’re raising money this year not just to keep BK awesome but to turn part of the caretakers’ apartment into a groovy lounge for our growing teen program

Whether you can pitch in a lot or a little, I’d love help in these areas:

  • Choosing party location
  • Finding caterer, setting Cuban-themed menu
  • Organizing alcohol, bartending
  • Designing Cuban-themed event décor—logo, decorations, auction cards
  • Scoring auction items—goods and services (LOTS OF HELP NEEDED)
  • Scoring house parties (BK dinner parties and events)
  • Organizing class baskets
  • Putting together live auction slideshow/PowerPoint
  • Devising digital bidding/checkout system
  • Writing auction item descriptions
  • Laying out auction program
  • Coordinating ads in auction program
  • Promoting the event to BK families
  • Organizing ticketing and check-in
  • Setting up/breaking down on the day of the event

Shoot me an email—avivapatz@yahoo.com—if you can do ANYTHING, big or small, for the event, and/or if you can donate an auction item. I so appreciate it! Thanks all.
