Adult Bet Midrash - Refugee Shabbat

Saturday, March 6, 2021 22 Adar 5781

9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Zoom

We will hear from HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) speaker Isabel Burton on the current refugee & asylum crisis and how we can get involved.

With more than 80 million people worldwide who have fled their homes due to persecution and violence, this is a critical moment to give voice to our values as Jews and as Americans. After four years when the U.S. refugee admissions program ground to a halt and the asylum system was decimated, we celebrate the opportunity to look towards a return to the value of welcoming those in need of a safe place, and to continue the Jewish community's support for pro-refugee and asylum seeker policies across the globe.

Isabel Burton is the director of community engagement at HIAS, where she oversees programs that enable the American Jewish community to support refugees through education and grassroots advocacy. She will speak to us about the global refugee crisis, the national Jewish movement to support refugees, and ways to get involved in current community efforts.  Opportunities for Q&A will follow her presentation.
