Betty Murphy is the cover story of the Spring issue of North Jersey Woman.  We learn all about Betty, her professional and volunteer work in the article, “Creating Opportunities in Business & Community,” which features beautiful photographs of Betty, husband Greg, and business partner, Jim Smith, taken by our own, Dan Epstein.
 

Shana Stein is the recipient of the 2015 Weston Award for AP History, Montclair High School.  The Weston Awards have been given out for the past 24 years to acknowledge outstanding contributions in the classroom. Winners were selected from recommendations made solely by parents, guardians and students.

Melody  Kimmel was recently quoted in Fortune.com.  The article followed up a probe by New York Times reporter Andrew Ross Sorkin into whether companies with female CEOs are disproportionately targeted by activist investors. Why don’t  female CEOs want to step forward and confront this issue?  “All CEOs have to be strategic about the causes they pick up and if makes sense for their business to do so,” [Melody] said. “They need to be the face and the voice of the company, not the poster child for whatever issue, in this case gender.”  Full story at: http://fortune.com/2015/02/12/female-ceos-activist-investors/

Ron Kaplan, the sports and features editor for the NJ Jewish News, was chosen as the first place winner in the blogging category for 2014 (Kaplan’s Korner on Jews and Sports) by the New Jersey Press Association. His new book, The Jewish Olympics: The History of the Maccabiah Games, will be released by Skyhorse Publishing in July.

 

Rabbi Darby Leigh (former BK assistant rabbi) of Congregation Kerem Shalom in Concord, Massachusetts, is on Tablet Magazines list in the article, "15 American Rabbis You Haven’t Heard Of, But Should".

 
Alma Schneider will be in eleven different Hearst Publishing magazines for the next four months. My company, Take Back the Kitchen, will be featured in a Chevy Traverse car advertisement! In addition, a video of an interview with a car enthusiast and Alma will appear on numerous Hearst websites.
 
Congratulations to Dinah Hendon on winning the Grand Prize of $2,500 in the Mooney Farms 2014 Recipe Contest. The winning recipe was for her Mediterranean Brisket.

Jesse Grupper, a rising senior at Montclair High School, took first place in the "Youth A" flight at the USA Climbing's 2014 Sport Climbing
Series Youth National Championships, held July 10-13 in Atlanta. Grupper was first overall among 36 climbers in qualifying, second in the
semifinal run, edging teammate Solomon Barth for the championship.
