Anti-Semitism and Poetry (Second session)
A continuation of the Oct, 25 session, and will be shaped by the interests of those at the first session. It will probably include looking at the work of former New Jersey Poet Laureate Amiri Baraka, who is lauded by many despite writing a poem, which he stood by, that said Jews and Israel were responsible for 9/11. We may also detour into fiction, to read and discuss excerpts from major 20th century novels (Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” and Hemingway’s “The Sun Also Rises”) which feature undeniably anti-Semitic characters.
