Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharris, co-chair of the Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival will speak about the political, moral, and religious imperative to end poverty. We will learn about ways to participate in this effort including the Mass Poor People's Assembly and Moral March on Washington on June 20th in DC.

Please register, and we will send you a Zoom invitation to the event.

As we work to take care of each other and ourselves, we are faced with the knowledge that, for many of our neighbors, the current crisis represents an economic catastrophe as well as a health scare. This moment highlights the critical need for organizations and campaigns focused on fighting and ending the reality of widespread poverty in the United States and right here in Essex County.

Rev. Liz will speak on Zoom about the political, moral, and religious imperative to end poverty, and encourage us to join a growing movement to make that a reality. Rabbi Ariann Weitzman of Bnai Keshet Synagogue in Montclair, NJ will offer a brief text study on poverty in advance of Rev. Liz's remarks.

Rev. Liz Theoharis has spent over the past two decades organizing amongst the poor in the United States. In addition to her role as Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, she is the Director of the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice at Union Theological Seminary. Liz received her BA in Urban Studies from the University of Pennsylvania; her M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary in 2004 where she was the first William Sloane Coffin Scholar; and her PhD from Union in New Testament and Christian Origins.
